Introduction

Due to the growing number of complex crises that pose threats to international peace and security the United Nations introduced a multi-dimensional approach to peacekeeping.

Considering the challenges especially on performance standards of Military Staff Officers at the Force and Sector Headquarter levels, TPDF has been  solving problems of staffs with the staffs inadequacy, stimulate pre-deployment training for staff officers to meet the standards in performing their roles to strategic, operational and tactical levels.

Currently the Tanzania Peacekeeping Training Centre (TPTC) managed to teach 12 intakes with specific knowledge and skills ready to master all challenges in peace support operations.

Course Description

The four-week United Nations Staff Officer Course (UNSOC) is designed by to expose participants to relevant skills, expertise and best practices in the sphere of staff duties in the mission areas.

Normally effort placed on exploring and applying adult training methodologies. The course facilitation teams are TPTC College Staff, The Mozambique-Tanzania Centre for Foreign Relations, Tanzanian Police as well as The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) among others.

CourseSummary

The aim of the Course is to train the Military Officers, so that they become capable of manning United Nations or African Union HQs.

Course Modules

The course is planned to cover spectrum of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and ends at the tactical level on knowledge and skills required for an individual UNSOC to succeed.  Course content will be in line with the STM.  There will be an exercise at the end of the course to consolidate on the modules covered during the course.

Target Participants

Set at the operational level, the course targets a mixed group of middle and above leadership from TPDF.
